Police chief: search for Rusiņš continues, case not shelved

More than three years have passed since a horrifying murder in the Jēkabpils district, where a man killed a victim he had been stalking for a long time. Leons Rusiņš, considered the main suspect in the case, still has not been found. However, State Police chief Armands Ruks said in an interview with the program "Kāpēc" that the search and investigation in this case have not stopped.

Ruks explained that cases of this kind cannot simply be set aside — work on them must continue constantly. He put it plainly: this case cannot be "put on some shelf," because work on it is ongoing without interruption.

Legal changes since the case

Since the tragedy, several legal acts in Latvia have been improved with the aim of strengthening protection for victims of violence against their abusers. These changes came about largely as a result of the public reaction to this and similar cases, yet the murder itself remains unsolved, as the suspect has not been apprehended.

The head of the State Police did not reveal specific details of the investigation, but his statements indicate that the case is still considered active and continues to receive attention despite the long period of time that has passed since the crime.
