Poland detains man suspected of plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Tusk
Police in Poland's Lower Silesia region have arrested a Polish national suspected of planning an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. Officials say they are treating the threat as "deadly serious".

Polish police have detained a man suspected of plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. Tusk announced the arrest himself. The suspect is a Polish citizen and was taken into custody in Lower Silesia, a region in the south-west of the country.
The interior ministry had reported earlier that police received credible information about possible attacks on the two politicians. On Sunday, security services convened a special meeting to assess the situation. A spokesman said officials regarded the threat as "deadly serious".
How the plan came to light
Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka said the plot was uncovered when the State Protection Service, which is responsible for the security of ministers, forwarded police an email containing information about a potential attack.
Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesman for the Special Services Coordinator, told local media there was a strong likelihood that the threats could actually be carried out.
Tusk thanked police for their "swift and decisive action" in arresting the suspect.
Background
Tusk has been Poland's prime minister since 2023, having previously held the post from 2007 to 2014. From 2014 to 2019 he served as president of the European Council. The source does not say what charges or investigative steps will follow the arrest.
