Poland launches shelter-finder website after strike near border

Poland's government has launched a new website allowing residents to check where the nearest shelters are located in case of danger. Polskie Radio reported this, according to Ukrainska Pravda.

The service, found at gdziesieukryc.pl, was launched in connection with Russia's overnight strike on September 13 against a fuel station in Ukraine, close to the border with Poland.

Experts raise concerns

Professor Jarosław Stelmach, a security expert and president of the Safety Project organization, said that until now little had been done in Poland to create safe places in case of threat. He noted that a large share of responsibility falls on local authorities, which unfortunately have fairly limited capabilities, and that Poles lack safe shelters along the eastern flank.

Background

As a reminder, on September 13 Russia struck the locomotive of a passenger train near the border with Poland. Separately, Dariusz Sinecki, spokesperson for the Nadbużański border guard unit, said a drone had hit a truck near the "Jagodin–Dorohusk" border crossing.
