Poland Probes Attack on Ukrainian Teenagers for Speaking Ukrainian

Polish police have begun investigating an incident in Legnica, a city in western Poland, where a local woman allegedly aggressed against 13-year-old Ukrainian girls. According to Karolina Galecka, spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, the police are examining the circumstances following a social media post by an adult Ukrainian woman describing the event.

The woman stated that her daughters were playing near a pool last Saturday alongside other children. A local woman approached with her own children and complained about the girls speaking Ukrainian in Poland. Later, she repeated her complaints and allegedly pushed one of the girls, as well as two other minors who attempted to defend them.

Galecka emphasized that no one has the right to use force against another person, especially children. “It is particularly shameful that the attack most likely occurred due to the teenagers' national origin,” she added.

Earlier this week, Poland saw other hate-related incidents. A 60-year-old man was beaten after defending a Ukrainian teenager from insults by three Polish men. Additionally, a 54-year-old man was formally charged for insulting Ukrainian women on a bus in Bielsko-Biała.
