Poland confirmed almost 30 new African swine fever outbreaks among wild boar last week across seven voivodeships. Since January, 1,816 outbreaks have been recorded, over 1,000 fewer than a year earlier.

Poland recorded nearly 30 new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in its wild boar population last week. The disease, a threat to the pig farming sector, was confirmed in seven voivodeships (Polish administrative regions), according to data published by the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate (GIW). Most cases occurred in the north of the country and in the Podkarpackie region in the southeast.
Where the disease was found
Over the past week, outbreaks in wild boar were confirmed in the following areas:
- Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship: Świecie and Toruń counties;
- Lublin Voivodeship: Biłgoraj and Tomaszów counties;
- Masovian Voivodeship: Radom county;
- Podkarpackie Voivodeship: Przemyśl and Rzeszów counties;
- Pomeranian Voivodeship: Słupsk county;
- Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship: Ełk and Ostróda counties;
- West Pomeranian Voivodeship: Kamień county.

The situation in 2026
Since the beginning of January, 1,816 ASF outbreaks have been confirmed in wild boar nationwide, more than 1,000 fewer than in the same period last year. The geographic spread has also shifted somewhat compared with a year ago. Fewer outbreaks have been confirmed in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, there have been no cases in the Opole region, and disease pressure remains low in the Lubusz and Greater Poland voivodeships.
At the same time, the number of outbreaks has risen in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. The disease has also appeared in Piotrków county in the Łódź Voivodeship, as well as in Przemyśl and Rzeszów counties in Podkarpackie.
This year, 10 outbreaks have also been confirmed in pig herds. They occurred in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lublin, Podlaskie, Pomeranian and West Pomeranian voivodeships.
