Drunk tractor driver in Poland runs red signal at rail crossing, endangers 500 lives
A drunk tractor driver in Poland drove onto a railway crossing as a passenger train approached, ignoring a flashing red signal and putting roughly 500 lives at risk.
An incident in Poland saw a tractor driver, under the influence of alcohol, drive onto a railway crossing just as a passenger train was approaching. Poland's State Railways reported the case and released footage from the site of the accident, which occurred on August 3 on the stretch between Subkowy and Gorki.
The video clearly shows a flashing red signal, which requires drivers to stop before the crossing. The investigation found that the driver was not only intoxicated but also completely disregarded the warning signal, stopping in the middle of the crossing instead of clearing it as quickly as possible.
Collision with a straw-loaded trailer
The train struck the tractor's trailer, which was loaded with straw bales. Although the consequences of the collision turned out to be less severe than they could have been, the driver's actions created a serious threat to approximately 500 people - the train's passengers, crew and other road users.
Railway urges caution
Representatives of the Polish railway remind drivers to be especially careful at every railway crossing - upon seeing a STOP sign or a flashing red light, vehicles must stop immediately. Rail safety experts stress that even a few seconds of inattention can cost a human life.
