Poland's Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has announced that the country is stepping up its air force activity in response to provocations from Russia. The statement was made on the minister's account on social platform X.

Poland plans to increase the number of F-16 fighter jets and helicopters in use to strengthen its air defense capabilities. Kosiniak-Kamysz said that following recent Russian provocations and acts of aggression, he decided to expand protection of the country's airspace by increasing air force activity, including F-16 jets and helicopters.

Nationwide threat-response systems

The minister also revealed that the government decided to strengthen threat-response systems across the entire territory of Poland, not just along the border. He noted that recent weeks have shown Russian provocations taking various forms and posing threats even in locations previously considered safe. Poland continues to constantly monitor the situation at its eastern border while also reinforcing rapid-response capabilities nationwide.

As a reminder, on September 17, in connection with jet drone attacks on western Ukraine, Poland's armed forces scrambled fighter jets, declared an air raid alert, and two airports temporarily suspended flights. Poland had earlier announced that more than 100 kilometers of its border with Ukraine would be equipped with an electronic protection system.
