Poland's foreign minister threatens to cut Starlink funding for Ukraine amid Musk dispute
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has warned Elon Musk that Poland could stop paying for Ukraine's Starlink service unless Poland is restored to Starlink's European communications region. Poland's Ministry of Digital Affairs currently spends about $50 million a year funding Starlink for Ukraine.
Poland's foreign minister, Radosław Sikorski, has warned Elon Musk that Warsaw will stop paying for Ukraine's Starlink satellite service unless Poland is put back into Starlink's European communications region.
The warning came after Starlink removed Poland from that region, a change that could raise costs for Polish users of the service. The company has not given a reason for excluding Poland.
Ukraine's reliance on Starlink
Ukrainian forces battling Russia depend heavily on Starlink connectivity. Russian troops also made use of Starlink terminals until early February this year, when a large number of terminals along the front line went offline.
Poland's Ministry of Digital Affairs funds the Starlink service for Ukraine, spending roughly $50 million annually on the program.
