Polish futsal: Mickēvičs scores twice in all-Latvian clash, Motiļs sent off

Poland's top futsal division saw another round of matches involving several Latvian players. Viktors Kuļepovs' club, Sierakowiec's We-Met Futsal, defeated Białystok's Jagiellonia 4:3 in a match featuring three Latvians on opposing sides — Kuļepovs against Andžejs Mickēvičs and Artemijs Piļipčuks. Jagiellonia is coached by Vaško Vujović of Montenegro, a former head coach of the Latvian national team and RFS.

Kuļepovs set up his side's early advantage late in the first half, scoring himself and assisting Romanian international Mihnea Toader as the visitors went up 2:0. Mickēvičs then struck twice in quick succession, in the 25th and 29th minutes, to level the score at 2:2. We-Met Futsal ultimately prevailed by the final score of 4:3.

Motiļs sent off but team wins anyway

Just over a week earlier, Jagiellonia had beaten Kazimierza Wielka 6:2 in another all-Latvian encounter, with Sergejs Motiļs scoring both goals for the losing side. In the more recent match, Motiļs lost the ball and picked up a second caution as early as the 5th minute, resulting in a red card. Despite playing a man down for most of the match, his team held on to win 4:2 in Katowice.

Standings

Among the 16 teams in the league, all clubs featuring Latvian players currently sit outside the playoff zone. Rainers Mūrnieks' Bochnia holds 9th place with nine points from five matches, Kuļepovs' We-Met Futsal is 11th with six points from six games, Renards Ūdris' Leszno is 13th with three points from five matches, while the clubs of Mickēvičs-Piļipčuks and Motiļs share 14th place, each with three points from six games.

Elsewhere, in Italy's top flight, Andrejs Baklanovs' newly promoted Giovinazzo lost 0:6 at home to Catania, while Mikus Babris' second-division side CDM Futsal fell 1:5 to Formia.
