Polish police have launched an investigation into vandalism at the grave of Bohdan Lepkyi, a Ukrainian poet, writer, and civic and cultural figure, at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Kraków.
According to Polish outlet Fakt, citing the press service of the Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Kraków, a report of the incident was received at 12:00 on July 5. An inspection was conducted at the scene, and authorities are now working to establish all the circumstances. The press service noted that at this stage there is no indication that the act was ethnically motivated. The damage to the grave monument may have occurred within the past two weeks.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry described the vandalism as a deliberate provocation intended to further inflame tensions between Ukraine and Poland. Meanwhile, a recent poll found that nearly half of respondents in Poland hold Ukraine responsible for the escalation of the conflict between Warsaw and Kyiv.
