Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called the involvement of Polish and Ukrainian politicians in the ongoing conflict a strategic mistake that will bring losses to both countries. In a post on X, he emphasized that the mistake will affect business, geopolitics, and reputation, and noted that he is working to minimize damage and reduce tension during talks with European partners.

The comment comes amid rising diplomatic tensions. On June 19, Polish President Karol Nawrocki decided to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle, citing the naming of a Ukrainian military unit after heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Nawrocki stated that Poland would not allow EU accession for those who fail to renounce the "cult of totalitarianism and violence."

In response, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar, and Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov announced they would return their Polish state awards. On June 20, Zelenskyy said he had sent the order back to Nawrocki by post. Additionally, former Ukrainian presidents Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yushchenko, and Petro Poroshenko declared they were renouncing their Orders of the White Eagle.

Earlier, Sybiha thanked Poles who do not support the escalation of tensions with Ukraine and recalled the common enemy, Russia. He also warned that Ukraine would mirror all unfriendly steps taken towards it.
