Portugal open Nations League title defense with win as Ronaldo goal disallowed
Portugal beat Wales 1-0 in Lisbon on Thursday to begin defending their UEFA Nations League title, while Netherlands drew with Germany and Norway edged Denmark in other League A matches.
Portugal's men's national team, defending champions of the UEFA Nations League, opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Wales in Lisbon on Thursday. The only goal came in the 22nd minute from Joao Felix. In the second half, a shot from Cristiano Ronaldo also found the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Other League A results
In Amsterdam, Netherlands drew 1-1 with Germany. Felix Nmecha put the visitors ahead in the 32nd minute, before the hosts equalized in stoppage time through Cody Gakpo.
In Oslo, Norway defeated Denmark 3-2. The hosts raced to a 2-0 lead by the 18th minute through goals from Oscar Bobb and Erling Haaland, but Mikkel Damsgaard and Hojlund pulled Denmark level at 2-2. Haaland then scored his second goal of the match in the 74th minute to secure the win. Despite being reduced to ten men in stoppage time after David Wolfe's second yellow card, the hosts held on for victory.
In Belgrade, Serbia lost 1-2 to Greece despite taking an early lead through Andrija Zivkovic in the 4th minute. Greece equalized in the 74th minute and scored the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
League B, D and second-tier matches
In League B, Austria beat Israel 3-1 in Linz. Israel's Sajed Abu Farhi scored an equalizer in the second half but was later sent off for a second yellow card. Kosovo defeated Ireland 1-0.
In League D, Malta won away against Andorra 2-1, while Lithuania beat Liechtenstein 2-0 away from home.
Latvia's national team will play their first League C match on Friday in Yerevan against Armenia.
