GB's Potter secures overall series silver despite finishing fourth in finale
Britain's Beth Potter took overall silver in the Triathlon World Championship Series as France's Cassandre Beaugrand completed a dominant, unbeaten season by winning the final race in Spain.
Great Britain's Beth Potter has finished second overall in the Triathlon World Championship Series, behind France's Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand, who claimed the title with victory in the season's final race.
The deciding event took place in Pontevedra, Spain, where Potter needed to win outright to overtake Beaugrand in the standings. Instead, she came home fourth, while her British team-mates Georgia Taylor-Brown and Kate Waugh took second and third place respectively.
Beaugrand won comfortably, completing the 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run in one hour, 50 minutes and 52 seconds — more than a minute faster than Taylor-Brown. Potter, who won the Pontevedra World Series race in 2023, stayed in contention through the bike leg, but Beaugrand broke away from the three British athletes on the second lap of the run and was not caught again.
The result rounds off an unbeaten season for Beaugrand, who won all five World Championship series races she entered. Taylor-Brown, meanwhile, won the Czech Republic leg earlier this month — her first series victory since 2023.
