Liepāja stadium pitch damaged at Prāta Vētra concert restored, full recovery still pending
The pitch at Liepāja’s Daugava Stadium, damaged during Prāta Vētra’s tour finale, has been renewed but is not yet fully ready. The restoration by SIA Grīnus costs about €16,000, with insurer Balcia expected to cover it.
The pitch at Liepāja’s Daugava Stadium, which was damaged during a concert by the band Prāta Vētra, has been restored, but the work is not yet fully complete. According to Sportacentrs, the sub-layer and grass surface have been renewed, but time is still needed for the grass to take root. The restoration has been carried out by SIA Grīnus, a company owned by Jānis Lagzdiņš. Data from Firmas.lv shows the company’s turnover in 2025 was €155,626 and profit was €34,544. The pitch renewal is expected to cost around €16,000.
The concert at the stadium marked the finale of the band’s “Pirmās dienas” tour. The band’s management said that weather conditions during the construction and dismantling of the stage were unfavourable, and heavy rain damaged the lawn near the stage. The costs related to restoring the pitch are planned to be covered by Balcia, the tour’s official insurer.
Balcia representatives told LETA that when organising such a large event at a sports stadium, potential risks had been assessed in advance. However, the situation was affected by a combination of factors, including intense rainfall and the stadium pitch’s historical problems with water drainage.
It is expected that the work will be completed so that footballers can return to the Daugava Stadium pitch by the end of August. The stadium can hold around 4,000 spectators and meets international football standards, which is why it is mainly used for football championships in Liepāja. At present, it is the home ground for the football club Liepāja.
