Person found drowned in a pond in Preiļi municipality

On Saturday, rescuers pulled a deceased person from a pond in Preiļi municipality, the State Fire and Rescue Service reported. The body was handed over to police.

On Saturday morning, firefighters and rescuers were called to a pond in Preiļi municipality after a person was found showing no signs of life. The incident was reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD).

Rescuers pulled the person from the water, but it was no longer possible to help them. The deceased was subsequently handed over to State Police officers, who will continue to establish the circumstances of the incident.

VUGD noted that over the past 24 hours it received 40 emergency calls in total. Of these, eight involved firefighting, 23 involved various rescue operations, and nine calls turned out to be false alarms.

Further details about how the person ended up in the pond have not yet been made public.
