Residents of the Preiļi municipality in Latvia experienced an unprecedented situation following a powerful storm — going without electricity for more than 60 hours, or over two full days. Communications were also disrupted during this period, forcing many households to find ways to cope with daily needs without their usual conveniences.

A lack of preparedness

Some local residents expressed frustration, acknowledging that they themselves had not been adequately prepared for such a long power outage. The experience following the storm has prompted people to reassess how ready they actually are to manage without electricity and communications over an extended period.

Life gradually returns to normal

After more than two days without power, life in the municipality is slowly returning to its usual rhythm. Residents are rushing to buy food needed after the long interruption, as well as to charge their phones in order to restore contact with family and other members of the community. However, the situation is not yet fully resolved, and locals note that the recovery process has proven more complicated than it might appear from the outside.
