Premier League club that profited from defender sales sets new target
After earning significant sums from selling defenders last year, Bournemouth have identified a new target in Benfica's 22-year-old centre-back Antonio Silva.
The Athletic reports that Bournemouth, having profited from defender sales last year, have set their sights on a new target: Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva.
Silva, 22, has been with Benfica for four years, winning four trophies in that time. He has scored ten goals in 181 appearances. The defender has gained European experience, playing 29 Champions League matches and six Europa League games.
Silva made his Portugal debut in 2022 and was part of the squad at the previous World Cup and at Euro 2024. This year, however, he was left out of the national team and did not make the squad for the World Cup in North America.
Bournemouth earned handsomely from selling defenders last year. Illya Zabarnyi moved to Paris Saint-Germain for €63 million, Dean Huijsen joined Real Madrid for €62.5 million, and Milos Kerkez went to Liverpool for €46.9 million.
The club therefore has substantial funds available, and Silva could be the next addition to their defensive line.
