President visits eastern border: more border guards needed
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the country's eastern border to assess its readiness. Equipment levels keep growing, but a shortage of personnel remains a problem.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs personally inspected the situation at the country's eastern border on Tuesday to check its readiness. The visit was reported by LSM in its program "Обсудим вечером".
During the visit, the president reviewed how the border guard and other services currently ensure the security of the border. According to the assessment made during the visit, the amount of technical equipment at the border keeps increasing steadily.
Staff shortage remains
Despite the growing amount of equipment, a shortage of personnel persists — more people are needed to guard the border than are currently available. This issue was highlighted as one of the key challenges during the president's visit concerning the security of the eastern border.
Strengthening the border and improving its defense capabilities has been considered one of Latvia's priorities in recent years, given the geopolitical situation in the region.
