Prime Video drops 'Blade Runner 2099' trailer; series premieres November 25
The eight-episode live-action series, starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, is set 50 years after the events of 'Blade Runner 2049'.
After nearly five years of waiting, the trailer for 'Blade Runner 2099' has finally arrived. This is the franchise's first live-action TV show, following the animated 'Blade Runner: Black Lotus'.
As the title suggests, the series is set 50 years after the sequel film 'Blade Runner 2049'. The trailer is steeped in cyberpunk aesthetics, with stunning visual effects. While plot specifics are scarce, hints suggest the world has changed drastically since Ryan Gosling's stint in the 2049 film. Replicants now appear to be the dominant societal force, with humans as a minority. There are also references to some war that occurred after 2049 but before the events of the show.
Hunter Schafer stars as the blade runner Cora, while Michelle Yeoh plays a replicant that Cora must reluctantly team up with to find "a runaway hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city." Showrunner Silka Luisa, known for the Apple TV+ adaptation of 'Shining Girls', leads the project. Ridley Scott, director of the original film, serves as executive producer.
Described as a limited series, 'Blade Runner 2099' may be a one-off. All eight episodes launch on Prime Video on November 25. For the uninitiated, 'Blade Runner' is a 1982 cult classic sci-fi film based on Philip K. Dick's novel, spawning films, cartoons, comics, and novels.
