Sole Survivor of Princess Diana's Crash: How Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones Lives Today
Trevor Rees-Jones, the only survivor of the 1997 Paris crash that killed Princess Diana, lives privately in England and works in security. He avoids publicity and tries to lead an ordinary life.

The car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997 shocked the world. Princess Diana, aged 36, her friend Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul all died. The only person to survive was Fayed's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, who was also responsible for Diana's safety that evening.
A private life in England
Almost three decades after the tragedy, the former bodyguard largely avoids public attention. In 2022 he was photographed after a long gap in Shropshire, England, where he lives with his wife Anna Scott and their two children. The images showed scars that remain from the injuries he suffered in the crash.
Career in security
After his working relationship with the Fayed family ended in 1998, Rees-Jones continued in the security field and later used the name Trevor Rees professionally. His public professional profile says he worked for United Nations bodies and private companies before joining the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, where he has been head of global security since 2019.
A source close to him has said he leads a calm, low-profile life and does not talk much about what happened, having tried to move on.
Severe injuries and survivor's guilt
Rees-Jones's survival was widely regarded as almost miraculous. He suffered very serious head and chest injuries, spent ten days in a coma and was in hospital for about a month. Severe facial injuries required several operations. He was also haunted by survivor's guilt; in an interview some months after the crash he admitted that at first he had not realised he was the only one of the four people in the car to remain alive.
He later said in an interview: "I am more than just a car crash." Since then he has started a family, continued his career and tried to live as ordinary a life as possible.
