Prince George begins studies at elite Eton College
Thirteen-year-old Prince George, the eldest son of Prince William, has started his first day at prestigious Eton College accompanied by his parents. Both his father and his uncle, Prince Harry, previously attended the same school.
Prince George has begun his first day at Eton College, one of Britain's most prestigious private schools. The 13-year-old future heir to the throne arrived for his new school term accompanied by his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine.
The family walked the short distance from their home, Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, to the school. In the historic courtyard, centered around a statue of King Henry VI, who founded the college in 1440, George and his parents were greeted by headmaster Simon Henderson and provost Sir Nicholas Coleridge. Henderson wished the new pupil good luck, while the rainy weather prompted a brief exchange between the family and school representatives.
Following in his father's and uncle's footsteps
By attending Eton, George continues a family tradition — both his father William, who studied there for five years starting in 1995, and his uncle, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, are alumni. Kensington Palace released photographs of George in his school uniform to mark the occasion.
Eton is known for its demanding academics, extensive sporting opportunities, and emphasis on independence and leadership skills. Admission is highly competitive, requiring pupils to pass a rigorous selection process, while annual tuition reaches 73,663 euros. Students live in one of 25 boarding houses, each overseen by a housemaster.
On his first day, George wore smart casual clothing before later changing into Eton's traditional uniform — a black tailcoat, waistcoat, pinstriped trousers and a white shirt with a stiff collar. The family hopes that, as was the case for William and Harry, George will be able to study with a degree of privacy away from media attention.
Before Eton, George attended Lambrook, a private school in Berkshire, alongside his sister Princess Charlotte and brother Prince Louis. The family spent part of the summer in Scotland.
