Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and a member of the British royal family, is trying to take into account the schedule of his elder brother Prince William and William's wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, when planning his own public activities. A source close to the royal family told The Times about it. The report matters because the brothers' relationship has been strained for years, and the step may signal a wish to ease tensions.

What the source says

According to the source, Harry knows that the King will attend a meeting of Commonwealth heads of government and that the Prince and Princess of Wales are due to travel to India. He reportedly factors all of this into his own plans.

In November, the Indian city of Mumbai is due to host the award ceremony of the Earthshot Prize, the environmental initiative founded by William. It will take place on 17 November. William's attendance is confirmed, but it is not yet known whether Catherine will join him.

Background

Harry and Catherine were once on warm terms, but the relationship deteriorated considerably after Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties. Harry's relationship with William, to whom he was once very close, is also tense. Nothing currently points to a swift reconciliation.

It is suggested that Harry's approach could be a gesture of peace: it would leave the spotlight on William and Catherine rather than prompting yet another debate about the brothers' rivalry.

Harry's public activities have previously coincided with major royal events several times. His interview with GQ magazine was published on the day the British royal family hosted the Sultan of Oman. At the time, Harry's representative said the magazine's editors had chosen the publication date.

In the interview, Harry acknowledged that past events leave lasting marks and that it can be hard to let go of resentment. "There is already enough drama in the world and in people's lives to keep family conflicts going," he said. After publication, his representative clarified that the remarks were not meant as a reproach to William or any other family member.
