Producer Madara Kalniņa: Success of «The Unknown Woman» Could Raise Latvia's Profile
Madara Kalniņa, co-producer of «The Unknown Woman», a film shot almost entirely in Riga, says international recognition would show what level of cinema can be made in Latvia.

Latvian producer Madara Kalniņa says that worldwide success for the film «The Unknown Woman» could raise Latvia's profile in cinema. The film was directed by Maja El Tuhi and was shot almost entirely in Riga. Kalniņa worked on it together with colleagues from Denmark and Sweden.
In an interview on «Kultūras rondo», a culture programme of Latvian public media, the producer talks about the locations used during filming, the role Latvian film professionals played in making the film, and what it would mean for Latvia if the film keeps attracting attention around the world.
"If this film reaches the global stage and gains recognition, then Latvia's name will be heard too, and that will give us a chance to show what level of films can be made here," Kalniņa says.
The conversation shows how the success of an international co-production can affect the local film industry and the country's image abroad.
