Prosecutors to review spending on disaster management centre construction

Latvia's Ministry of the Interior has turned to the Prosecutor General's Office over possibly unjustified expenses incurred during the construction of disaster management centres.
Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava said that several recently completed projects contained cost items whose usefulness raises serious concerns. The matter was reported by LSM's programme "Let's Discuss It Tonight" (Обсудим вечером).
Among the questionable expenses highlighted was a flower bed, the construction of which reportedly cost 3,500 euros. This item became one of the examples cited as raising doubts about whether spending on the disaster management centre construction projects was properly justified.
The ministry has decided to refer the matter to the Prosecutor General's Office, asking it to assess whether the expenditures on these construction projects were economically justified and consistent with their intended purpose.
