PSG chase historic six trophies and third straight Champions League title

Paris St-Germain open their season on Wednesday in Salzburg against Europa League winners Aston Villa in the Uefa Super Cup, launching a campaign in which they hope to match or surpass last year's achievements. PSG have won the Champions League in each of the last two seasons - beating Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich in 2025 and Arsenal on penalties in Budapest this year. A third straight triumph would make them only the second club after Real Madrid, who won three in a row between 2016 and 2018, to achieve the feat. An even rarer landmark - three European Cups within five years - has only been managed by Real Madrid, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Targeting six trophies

This season PSG will compete in six competitions - the Uefa Super Cup, France's Trophee des Champions, the Champions League, Ligue 1, the French Cup and the Fifa Intercontinental Cup - and will be favourites in all of them. Last season they claimed five trophies, missing out only in the French Cup, where they lost to Paris FC. No major club has ever won six trophies in a single season; the best mark outside PSG belongs to Celtic, who won five in 1966-67.

Tired legs but a settled squad

PSG could face a slow start given 16 of their players featured at the World Cup, six of them reaching the final weekend. Eight PSG players scored at the tournament, a club record. Only 24 days separate the World Cup final from the Super Cup. The squad remains largely unchanged from last season - the same ten outfield players started both recent Champions League finals, with only the goalkeeper altered. Summer arrivals include Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche, left-back Lucas Digne from Aston Villa and 18-year-old goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni from Milan. Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos have left for Atletico Madrid and AC Milan respectively, while Bradley Barcola could join Liverpool for around £100m. PSG failed in a bid for Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande and are now reportedly focused on Barcelona's Ferran Torres.
