PSG score twice in stoppage time to snatch 2-2 draw at Lille
Paris Saint-Germain came back from two goals down for the second week running, scoring twice in injury time to draw 2-2 away at Lille in their Ligue 1 title defence.
Paris Saint-Germain fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Lille on Friday night, the second consecutive weekend the reigning Ligue 1 champions have needed a late comeback to avoid defeat.
How the match unfolded
Under manager Davide Ancelotti, Lille looked set for a second win in as many games, with both home goals created by veteran striker Olivier Giroud, 39. He first set up Hakon Haraldsson, who fired in from around 20 yards. Debutant Dilane Bakwa, on loan from Nottingham Forest, then curled in a fine second goal in the 84th minute.
With Lille closing in on victory, PSG struck twice in stoppage time. Vitinha found the top corner with an excellent strike in the 91st minute, and four minutes later the Portuguese midfielder crossed for captain Marquinhos to head home the equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game.
Context
This marks the second week running that PSG have rescued a draw from a two-goal deficit — last weekend they came back from 2-0 down against Rennes in the same fashion. The club is still without a domestic win this season: PSG also lost 1-0 to Lens in the Trophée des Champions. Their one positive result so far came in the Uefa Super Cup, where they beat Aston Villa 2-1.
The match was billed beforehand as a tactical duel between PSG boss Luis Enrique and Lille's Davide Ancelotti, with Ancelotti's side, Carlo Ancelotti noted afterwards, having struggled to win individual battles during the game.
