PSG sign World Cup final hero Torres from Barcelona

Paris St-Germain have completed the signing of forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona, with the 26-year-old Spaniard putting pen to paper on a contract running until 2031. The transfer fee is reported to be around 50m euros (£42.7m).

Torres became a national hero last month when he scored the extra-time winner against Argentina in the World Cup final, securing Spain's second men's world title. His value had already been climbing after an impressive season at Barcelona, where he scored 21 goals and added three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, helping the club win the La Liga title.

PSG, led by former Barcelona player and coach Luis Enrique, have lifted the Champions League in each of the past two seasons. Torres becomes the club's second notable forward signing of the summer, following the arrival of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco.

The French champions added further silverware on Wednesday, beating Aston Villa 2-1 to win the Uefa Super Cup.

Torres spent time at Manchester City before joining Barcelona in 2022. For the Spanish national team, he has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances, having made his debut under Luis Enrique.

Meanwhile, PSG could see forward Bradley Barcola depart this summer, with Liverpool reportedly interested in signing him.
