Psychiatrist Explains Zoophilia in Connection with Animal Pornography Case in Latvia

An investigation revealed that since at least 2021, one animal holding facility in Latvia hosted pornographic performances involving sexual acts with animals, which were filmed. Psychiatrist Māris Taube explains that zoophilia is classified as a paraphilia, a sexual behavior disorder.

During investigative actions, Latvian law enforcement discovered that at one animal holding facility in the country, pornographic performances had been regularly organized since at least 2021. Several individuals engaged in sexual acts with various animals, and these acts were filmed and photographed.

Psychiatrist and professor Māris Taube comments on the nature of zoophilia. He states that zoophilia belongs to a group of conditions known in psychiatry as paraphilias. The term “philia” from ancient Greek means love, while “para” means incorrect, inappropriate, or non-standard. Thus, zoophilia is a sexual behavior disorder, similar to pedophilia, which also falls into this category.
