A court in London has again sentenced a young man named Boulares to prison for robbing people of their Rolex watches at machete-point. The judge condemned his daylight street robberies.

A London court has handed down another prison sentence to Boulares, a young man convicted of robbing people of their Rolex watches while threatening them with a machete.

Details of the offence

Prosecutor Lydia Stephens told the court that in the latest case, two victims — both wearing Rolex watches — faced what she described as an "aggressively brandished large blade" and "extreme intimidation." According to the victims, Boulares threatened them with words such as demanding they hand over the watch or have their hand cut off, leaving them fearing they were about to be slashed.

Judge's remarks

Sentencing him, Judge Jas Jandu said Boulares had acted in a "totally unacceptable" way, rampaging through the streets armed with a deadly weapon and robbing — or attempting to rob — people in broad daylight, adding that he should be ashamed.

This is not the first time Boulares has faced sentencing for similar offences. At an earlier hearing, Judge Martin Edmunds told him that he appeared driven by the belief that if other people could afford nice possessions, he was entitled to simply take them.

The case forms part of a wider pattern of street robberies for which the young man has repeatedly been sentenced in London.
