Matisone to Serve as Acting President for a Day and a Half

Due to the absence of both the President and the Speaker of the Saeima, Deputy Speaker Zanda Matisone will fulfill presidential duties for one and a half days.

President Edgars Rinkēvičs will be abroad from June 27 to June 29 at 1 PM. According to the Constitution, the Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mieriņa, assumes presidential duties during his absence. However, Mieriņa will also be out of the country from June 28 to June 29, so Deputy Speaker Zanda Matisone will take over the role for that period.

Thus, on June 27, Mieriņa will act as president, while from June 28 until 1 PM on June 29, Matisone will serve as acting president. Matisone was elected Deputy Speaker on June 4, following the change of government when Andris Kulbergs (AS) became Prime Minister.
