Putin's isolation deepens: Expert assesses failures of Russia's war strategy in Ukraine
A defense expert with 36 years of experience points out that Putin's war in Ukraine is facing increasing isolation and strategic shortcomings.
Ruben F. Johnson, an analyst with 36 years of experience in the analysis of foreign weapons systems, defense technologies, and international arms export policy, has offered his perspective on the war in Ukraine and the prospects of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Johnson worked for many years in the US defense industry as a foreign technology analyst and later served as a consultant for the US Department of Defense, the US Navy and Air Force departments, as well as the governments of the United Kingdom and Australia. In 2022–2023, he received awards for defense journalism for two consecutive years.
According to the expert, Putin's house of cards in Ukraine is rapidly collapsing, which aligns with a previous assessment. In March 2022, a week after the Russian president and former KGB lieutenant colonel made the decision to invade Ukraine, then-US President Joe Biden stated in his annual State of the Union address that Vladimir Putin is “more isolated from the world than he has ever been.”
