Putin says drones are main challenge for Russian army
Vladimir Putin said after an SCO summit in Bishkek that drones pose the main threat to the Russian army in all environments. Ukrainian forces, meanwhile, continue to strike Russian oil and military facilities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on September 1 that unmanned aerial vehicles now represent the main challenge for the Russian army. Speaking at a press conference after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Putin noted that drones are a challenge in all environments — underwater, at sea, on land and in the air. He described the situation as serious.
Putin expressed confidence that Russia would fulfill its tasks in countering drones. He emphasized that Russian defense enterprises are accelerating their work to address this challenge.
Shortly before Putin's remarks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his address that Russian airspace was becoming fully dangerous, and warned all airlines using Russian airspace about the risks.
In addition, on the night of August 30, Ukrainian defense forces struck the Kirishi oil refinery in Leningrad Oblast and the Yeysk airfield in Krasnodar Krai. Earlier, authorities in Leningrad Oblast had reported an attack with more than 60 drones and a hit on the oil refinery in Kirishi. These events highlight the growing role of drone warfare in the conflict.
