Kremlin says Putin and Trump discussed U.S. envoys’ trips to Moscow and Kyiv in hour-long call
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump held a constructive and candid one-hour phone conversation about trips by U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv. The Kremlin views the outcome positively, while U.S. officials have not commented.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have held a one-hour telephone conversation, which Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov described as constructive and candid.
According to Ushakov, the two leaders discussed trips by U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv. He said the Kremlin positively assesses the results of the U.S. negotiators’ visit to Russia and that work through this channel will continue.
Ushakov also said Trump is interested in achieving a breakthrough in efforts to end the war in Ukraine during his term. During the call, Trump reportedly stressed that ending the war is a precondition for fully restoring relations between Russia and the United States, and that restoring those ties could bring colossal benefits to both sides.
Putin, for his part, praised U.S. mediation efforts and said Russia has no aggressive plans toward Europe whatsoever, according to Ushakov. The Russian presidential aide described the overall tone of the conversation as positive.
U.S. officials have not yet commented on the substance of the call.
