PVD stops unsanitary cherry packaging, seizes 3 tons
The Food and Veterinary Service found that SIA "Topfruit" was packaging cherries in a previously closed warehouse without hot water or proper hygiene, halting 3 tons of product.

Inspectors from the Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) conducted an inspection and discovered that SIA "Topfruit" was operating from a warehouse on Sniķeres Street that had been closed by the service two years earlier. Although the company has a registered warehouse on Gaiziņa Street, the actual packaging took place at the unauthorized location.
During the inspection, the premises and equipment were found to be dirty, with no hot water available in either the packaging area or the restrooms. This prevented workers from maintaining adequate personal hygiene, a critical factor in food handling. Additionally, employees had not undergone mandatory health checks.
The warehouse contained boxes of cherries without labeling to indicate their origin. PVD issued an order to stop food distribution and seized 3 tons of cherries. An administrative violation proceeding has also been initiated for failure to comply with official requirements and hygiene regulations.
