Radio 3 Klasika and LSM.lv to Host Pre-Election Debate on Culture

Latvian Radio's classical music channel Klasika, together with LSM.lv, is organizing a pre-election debate titled "Culture in Latvia" to discuss the sector's most pressing challenges ahead of the upcoming vote.

The culture sector is described as one that continues to strengthen Latvia's reputation and make the country more recognizable internationally. Yet as elections approach, it faces a number of unresolved issues.

Low pay despite enthusiasm

One of the central topics expected to feature in the debate is compensation within the sector — workers who show great enthusiasm for their jobs nonetheless receive comparatively low salaries. The discussion is also expected to touch on what will happen to the sector under current geopolitical conditions.

Stalled infrastructure projects

The debate will also address why large-scale cultural infrastructure projects remain unfinished. Organizers plan to examine why the decision-making system continues to stall, delaying important decisions related to protecting Latvia's cultural space and preserving its cultural heritage.

The debate is intended as a platform for assessing, ahead of the election, how different political positions plan to address these long-standing unresolved questions facing the culture sector.
