This year marks 30 years since the house of the poet Rainis in Berkenele, in the Kalkune parish of Augsdaugava region, reopened in a new form after restoration. The place is tied to the early life of the poet, as it is the land of the childhood of little Janis.

Land of childhood

In Berkenele, the future great poet absorbed the values that shaped his personality. It was also here that he found thoughts and images for his poems. The house and its surroundings are therefore an important part of Rainis's life story.

Symposium ahead of the anniversary

Before the anniversary, a symposium titled "Three Circles in the Galaxy of Rainis" is being held. It offers visitors the chance to come closer to the world of Rainis through scholars' research, historical evidence and personal impressions. The focus is on the poet's childhood, his family and the landscapes that surrounded him.

The anniversary is thus not only a look back at the reopening of the restored house, but also an opportunity to view afresh the environment in which one of the best-known poets took shape.
