Film director Reinis Ūbelis, who has recently also taken on the role of director at Latvijas Radio 5, reflected on the differences between filmmaking and radio management in an interview for the Latvijas Radio programme "Monopols".

Ūbelis explained that radio, unlike other art forms, is a living organism. A film can be set aside and returned to, developed further over time, but radio does not allow for that kind of delay. Radio work requires immediate reaction and constant presence in the moment.

In the conversation, the director shared thoughts on how his experience in the film industry might benefit him in his new role leading a radio station, noting that both fields require a creative approach, though they differ in pace and the need for responsiveness.
