Rajevs: Both Russia and Ukraine are masters of trolling in the information war
Latvian MP Igors Rajevs said on TV24 that Russia and Ukraine continue to exchange increasingly sharp messages in their ongoing information war. He cited a Russian video hinting at winter hardships and Ukraine's countering poster referencing strikes on Russian territory.
The information war between Russia and Ukraine continues to feature mutual trolling, with both sides trying to deliver increasingly pointed messages to one another. This was stated by Igors Rajevs, a member of the Latvian parliament (Saeima) and a reserve colonel of the National Armed Forces, during the TV24 program "Par karu Ukrainā ar Igoru Rajevu."
Rajevs noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has once again resurfaced in this information front, calling his reappearance a classic example of trolling from both sides.
Winter threats and a bird metaphor
According to Rajevs, a video circulated by the Russian side hinted at the approaching winter and the hardships it could bring for Ukraine, with the message comparing it to snow falling on one's head, implying Ukrainians would soon understand what it means to freeze.
However, Ukraine has not left this unanswered. Rajevs said the Ukrainian side responded with a poster referencing strikes carried out on Russian territory, stating that in cold weather, birds typically fly toward burning regions.
Rajevs described this Ukrainian response as a skillful piece of trolling, emphasizing that the message was meant to show that Russian threats of strikes tied to the arrival of winter do not mean retaliation will flow in only one direction. He explained that Ukraine also has ways to respond, and that strikes — whether in the information space or on the battlefield — will not be one-sided.
