Rally Alūksne to Be Part of Tour European Rally for Three Seasons
Latvia's winter rally in Alūksne will join the international Tour European Rally and TER Historic calendars from 2027 to 2029. The two series will open their seasons there in January next year.

Rally Alūksne, a winter rally held in northeastern Latvia, will join the international Tour European Rally (TER) and TER Historic series for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons. The deal was agreed between the event's organisers, the Alūksne municipality and the TER promoters. It will allow Alūksne to be promoted through the series' international media channels and television partners.
On 22 and 23 January next year, Alūksne will open not only the Latvian and Estonian rally championship season, but also the twelfth TER season and the ninth TER Historic season.
Event history
Rally Alūksne began in 2011 as a round of the Latvian rally sprint championship. Since 2017 it has been part of the Latvian and Estonian rally championship. The event traditionally takes place in winter. Its winners include Latvian rally champions Jānis Vorobjovs and Ralfs Sirmacis, as well as drivers who have competed in the World Rally Championship: Kalle Rovanpera won in 2016 and 2017, Oliver Solberg in 2019, and Mārtiņš Sesks in 2023 and 2025.
What the organisers said
TER organiser and promoter Luca Grilli said the series will open its season in Latvia from 2027 to 2029. He described it as a prelude to the Arctic Lapland Rally Rovaniemi, planned in Finland the following weekend.
Renārs Salaks, a representative of the Rally Alūksne organisers, stressed that the partnership opens wider opportunities to show the work of the teams, sponsors and volunteers to an international audience and to attract more foreign crews and fans.
Dzintars Adlers, chairman of the Alūksne municipality council, said the rally is the district's most important and best-attended winter event. In his view, international recognition will also create opportunities for local businesses such as accommodation providers, caterers and other service providers.
