Range Rover Electric: The First Fully Electric Range Rover Finally Arrives
After years of delays, JLR has begun selling its first fully electric Range Rover, offering strong performance, fast charging and a steep price. The SUV is also built to handle serious off-road conditions.
After repeated delays — the model was first announced in December 2023 and originally slated for a 2024 launch — British carmaker JLR has finally released the first fully electric Range Rover.
Specifications
The SUV is powered by dual 260-kilowatt motors delivering up to 542 horsepower and 850 newton-meters of torque, which JLR says is 20 percent more than comparable motors of the same size typically produce. A double-stacked 118.5-kWh battery paired with 800-volt charging technology allows the car to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes. Under WLTP testing, maximum range reaches 372 miles, while real-world range is expected to reach up to 333 miles. The vehicle accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.
Pricing
In the UK, the entry-level Autobiography trim starts at £154,070 (about $208,000), while the long-wheelbase SV Black version reaches £225,240 (more than $304,000). Pricing for the top-tier Ultra models is available only on request. In the US, a lower-priced SE trim starts at $138,000, plus a $2,550 delivery and destination fee.
Off-road capability and testing
JLR says the electric powertrain is well suited to off-roading: the traction management system adjusts motor speed within 50 milliseconds, single-pedal driving works on inclines up to 45 degrees, and the vehicle can wade through water up to 900 millimeters deep. More than 300 patent applications were filed for the model. During development, batteries were tested in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +90°C, and physical testing covered a distance equivalent to circling the globe 38 times, alongside more than 250,000 hours of virtual testing. JLR backs the vehicle with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty.
The launch follows JLR's July announcement of the upcoming Range Rover GT, a fully electric grand tourer built on a new platform, with a full launch expected later this year.
