Starting from pole position, Russell fended off early attacks from Charles Leclerc and maintained the lead. Lewis Hamilton then moved into second, followed by Leclerc and championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Max Verstappen fought his way to third, overtaking Hamilton, and closed in on Russell, but a second pit stop pushed him back. Rain was forecast but never came, and Russell crossed the line first. Behind him were Verstappen and Antonelli, with Oscar Piastri fourth, Hamilton fifth (using a three-stop strategy vs. rivals' two), Isaac Hadjar sixth, Lando Norris seventh, Leclerc eighth, Liam Lawson ninth, and Arvid Lindblad tenth. After eight rounds, Antonelli leads the drivers' standings with 171 points, becoming the youngest-ever championship leader at 19. Russell is second with 131, Hamilton third with 125. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes leads with 302 points, followed by Ferrari (204), McLaren (159), and Red Bull (115). The season originally had 24 rounds but the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grands Prix were canceled due to conflicts in the Middle East; the season ends in Abu Dhabi. Last season, Lando Norris became world champion for the first time, while McLaren won the constructors' title for the second year in a row.
