Rāzna National Park to host educational mushroom walk in October
On October 10, Rāzna National Park will hold a free educational event about the world of mushrooms, led by mycologist Ēriks Zacs. Advance registration is required to attend.

On October 10, from 11:00 to 14:00, Rāzna National Park near Lūznava will host a nature education event focused on autumn mushrooms and their role in the forest ecosystem. The event will be led by nature researcher and mycologist Ēriks Zacs.
What to expect
Participants will join the mushroom expert on a walk through the park's forests, searching for and learning to identify various mushroom species by their characteristic features. The guide will also share interesting facts about how mushrooms are used and their broader significance in nature, going beyond the few well-known edible species that casual mushroom pickers typically recognize.
Attendance and registration
The event is free of charge, but interested participants must register in advance on the website www.tiekamiesdaba.lv, under the "Events Calendar" section. Exact location coordinates will only be sent to registered participants.
Why it matters
Diāna Selecka, a nature education specialist at the Nature Conservation Agency, notes that everyday mushroom foragers usually only recognize a handful of edible species, even though the surrounding nature holds a much wider variety of mushrooms that play an irreplaceable role in forest life. She says the forests of Rāzna National Park offer an ideal setting to discover this lesser-noticed part of nature and deepen understanding of its riches.
