Re:Baltica examines whether governing parties kept their promises ahead of Saeima elections

Ahead of the 15th Saeima elections, the investigative journalism platform Re:Baltica has launched an in-depth review examining whether political parties that have been part of the government over the past four years actually kept the promises they made to voters.

Four selected areas

Out of the full range of campaign pledges, the outlet chose four current and relevant areas where most parties had made concrete — and therefore verifiable — commitments. Two of these areas are the economy and good governance, topics that typically feature prominently in party platforms and whose outcomes can be measured against what was actually accomplished.

Checking what was promised

Re:Baltica notes that these particular areas were chosen precisely because the promises made in them were specific enough to be objectively compared with the real situation after four years in government. The aim is to give voters a clearer picture, before casting their ballots, of which parties followed through on their commitments and which did not.

The project is part of a broader pre-election journalism initiative intended to help the public evaluate the track record of political forces ahead of election day.
