Re:Check reviews: how many of parties' pre-election promises on economy and governance were kept

Four years ago, political parties laid out ambitious plans in the economic sections of their election manifestos. They promised to support balanced development across the whole country, boost socio-economic growth in Latgale, make housing more affordable, and ease conditions for small businesses.

The Re:Check fact-checking project, run by the Re:Baltica outlet, analyzed how much of this has actually been delivered. The conclusion is clear — very little of what was promised has been fulfilled.

Promises on regional development

One of the most frequently repeated pre-election pledges was to promote balanced development across all of Latvia, with particular emphasis on the need for socio-economic growth in Latgale. This region has historically lagged behind the rest of the country in development indicators, and parties had committed to changing that situation.

Housing affordability and small business support

Parties also promised to make housing more accessible for residents and to ease business conditions for small enterprises. These pledges were aimed at improving everyday living conditions for a broad part of society.

Findings of the review

According to Re:Check's analysis, only a very small portion of these promises has actually been implemented. The project systematically compared the wording of promises made four years ago with the current actual situation, in order to determine which parties kept their word and which did not.
