Red Bull fails to buy out Verstappen's exit clause
Red Bull's attempt to buy out Max Verstappen's exit clause for 8 million euros has failed, as the driver rejected the offer, highlighting growing tension between the team and the driver.

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has acknowledged that relations between Max Verstappen and Red Bull are becoming increasingly strained. Speaking on the "Sky Sports Deutschland" podcast "Backstage Boxengasse", Schumacher pointed to an exit clause in Verstappen's contract as the main source of tension, which could allow him to leave the team before the contract expires in 2028.
Schumacher revealed that dissatisfaction is mutual. According to what he has heard, Red Bull management left the track early, and there are reports that management blamed Verstappen for not clearly stating he would not activate the exit clause when all Red Bull management was present.
It has now emerged that Red Bull hoped to buy out this clause by offering Verstappen's management eight million euros, but the driver rejected the offer. This aligns with Verstappen's belief that a competitive car is more important to him than money.
After retiring from the British Grand Prix, Verstappen can mathematically no longer be in the top three of the standings before the summer break, meaning the clause could be activated. Verstappen must inform Red Bull Racing of his decision by October if he wishes to leave the team after this season, and rumors link the Dutch driver to McLaren.
