From Riga Hospitals to Dubai Skyscrapers: Latvian Firm "RedFrog" Builds Indoor Navigation Technology

Latvian technology company "RedFrog" has traveled a long road from its original idea to the product it offers today. The founders initially set out to build an augmented-reality tool that would let people at conferences or events lift their phone or put on smart glasses to instantly see where a specific person — say, an investor or potential business partner — was standing in the room.

From concept to working product

At the time, however, augmented-reality technology had not yet matured enough, and users were reluctant to adopt dedicated headsets for everyday use. Conversations with prospective clients revealed that the underlying problem could be solved in a far simpler way. The original concept gradually evolved into an indoor navigation solution built for large, complex buildings where finding one's way can be genuinely difficult.

Today, RedFrog's technology is deployed across a wide range of locations — from hospitals in Riga, where patients and visitors need to navigate sprawling wards, to skyscrapers in Dubai, where height and structural complexity create similar wayfinding challenges.

Growth with LIAA's backing

Along its development path, the company has repeatedly drawn on support programs offered by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA). This has included participation in business incubation, access to innovation-support instruments, and assistance in identifying new markets abroad. That support has helped the company not only refine its product but also scale internationally, allowing a Latvian-built technology solution to reach clients far beyond the domestic market.
