Reform MP says her sons pleaded with her to leave politics over safety concerns

Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin, who represents Runcorn and Helsby, has revealed that her adult sons have pleaded with her to give up her political career because they are worried about her safety.

Pochin said all eight Reform UK MPs now have 24-hour security protection. The measures were strengthened following the death of Ann Widdecombe, the former Conservative minister who served as Reform UK's immigration and justice spokeswoman, who was killed at her home in July.

Strain on family life

While expressing gratitude for the protection, Pochin acknowledged the toll it takes on family life. Her sons, aged 25 and 27, become upset whenever she visits and the conversation turns to security, urging her to stop what she is doing, arguing that no cause is worth risking her life.

Speaking to GB News, Pochin described a recent holiday to north Wales with her husband, during which two security guards accompanied them even while walking their dogs along a coastal path, with her husband nervously holding her hand throughout.

Everyday restrictions

Pochin said the security arrangements have become highly intrusive, preventing her from doing ordinary things such as shopping for clothes or make-up, or even visiting a supermarket, given the level of risk she now faces. Despite this, she insisted she would never be silenced and would continue her political work.
