Road repairs cause up to hour-long delays for drivers in Latvia
With 70 road construction sites currently active on Latvian state roads, drivers face significant delays, in some places up to an hour. The state road authority urges travelers to check the latest traffic restrictions before setting off.
Latvia's state road network currently has 70 active construction sites, leading to speed restrictions, temporary traffic lights, and reverse traffic flows. In several locations, drivers should expect delays of up to 60 minutes, warns the state company Latvijas Valsts ceļi.
Major restrictions on main highways:
- On the Daugavpils highway (A6) in Ikšķile, traffic uses one carriageway with a 50 km/h limit; crossing takes about 10 minutes. Between Gospori and Nīcgale, two temporary traffic lights and speed limits of 30, 50, and 70 km/h cause a 40-minute delay. From Kalniški to Ļūbaste, one traffic light and limits of 50 and 70 km/h add 25 minutes.
- On the Liepāja highway (A9) from Blīdene to Purvakrogs Brāļu kapi, two traffic lights and speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h cause a 30-minute delay.
- On the Daugavpils bypass (A14) near the junction and up to Svente, three traffic lights and speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h lead to a 30-minute crossing time.
Regional roads also face significant restrictions:
- On road Cēsis–Vecpiebalga–Madona (P30) from Vecpiebalga to Madona, four traffic lights and speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h result in a 35-minute delay.
- On road Gulbene–Balvi–Viļaka–Russian border (P35) from Litene to Balvi, five traffic lights with a 50 km/h limit cause a 45-minute delay.
- On road Tīnūži–Koknese (P80): from Kranciema quarry to the Avārijas brigāde park, one traffic light and speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h add 45 minutes; from Krape junction to Koknese, one traffic light section adds 25 minutes.
- On road Bauska–Aizkraukle (P87) from Ozolaine to Bārbele, three traffic light sections with speed limits from 30 to 60 km/h and a closed section near Ozolaine (with a detour) cause a 30-minute delay.
- On road Ilmāja–Priekule–Lithuanian border (P114) from Priekule to the border, five traffic light sections with a 50 km/h limit cause a 40-minute delay.
- On road Valdgale–Roja from Valdemārpils to the Rude border, five traffic lights and limits of 50 and 70 km/h lead to approximately one hour of delay.
