The Northern Latgale unit of the State Police's Latgale regional department completed its investigation on August 21 into the murder of a man in Rēzekne, as well as into the failure to report an especially serious crime. The criminal case has now been handed over to the prosecutor's office, which will decide whether to initiate prosecution.

Two people are suspected of involvement in the killing itself. A man born in 1995 is considered the primary suspect and has been arrested during the investigation. A woman born in 1991 is also suspected of involvement; she was detained but had a security measure applied that does not involve deprivation of liberty.

Additional suspects

Within the same criminal case, two more men have been named as suspects — accused of failing to report the especially serious crime. This suggests they may have known about the killing but did not inform law enforcement.

Police have not released further details about the circumstances of the murder or the victim's identity. The prosecutor's office will now decide on further steps, including possible charges.
