Teenager arrested after violent robbery in Rēzekne park
A man born in 1977 was assaulted and robbed of items worth about 300 euros in a Rēzekne park; police detained a teenage suspect the next day, who was later remanded in custody.
An assault took place in a park in Rēzekne on the evening of September 14, leaving a man born in 1977 injured. According to police, an unidentified person used physical force against him, causing bodily harm.
During the attack, the victim's mobile phone and a shopping bag containing goods were taken from him. The total loss is estimated at around 300 euros.
Suspect detained the following day
Officers from the Northern Latgale unit of the State Police's Latgale Regional Department responded promptly to reports of the incident and launched an investigation. By September 15, investigators had identified and detained the suspected perpetrator — a young person born in 2009.
The detained individual has since been remanded in custody as a security measure. Police noted that this person had previously come to their attention in connection with a similar criminal offense, as well as other violations.
Criminal proceedings launched
In connection with the incident, the State Police opened criminal proceedings under the section of the Criminal Law covering theft of another's movable property involving violence or the threat of violence — that is, robbery. The law provides for punishment ranging from deprivation of liberty for up to five years to short-term imprisonment, probationary supervision, community service, or a fine, with or without confiscation of property.
The investigation is ongoing. Police remind the public that no person is considered guilty until proven so through the procedure established by law.
